APPLIED KINESIOLOGY

Applied kinesiology has been part of holistic healthcare for decades. The technique was devised in the 1970’s by Dr. George Goodheart. Goodheart discovered that muscles became momentarily weak when exposed to negative stimuli. He found, for example, that a patient with hypoglycemia would weaken in the deltoid muscle in the shoulder when some sugar was placed on his tongue.

How does applied kinesiology work? One common form requires two people. One person, the subject, holds a substance-a drug or herb, in one hand and extends the other arm out to the side, parallel to the ground. The second person tells the subject, “Resist”. The second person then pushes down on the subject’s arm with a moderate amount of force. If the arm can resist, the
substance tested is beneficial. If it’s harmful, the arm will weaken and the second person can easily push it down. (This works, by the way, regardless of the relative strength of the two people.)

Kinesiology caught on quickly in the alternative healing community. Soon afterward, Dr. John Diamond began using it to test psychological stimuli, such as facial gestures, music, and emotional stress-an approach called behavioral kinesiology.

Applied Kinesiology is a technique where the Doctor of Chiropractic can determine structural imbalance, distortion or subluxation in the human body for the purpose of removing nerve interference and the effects thereof.
